Pitchfork has a lovely story about musicians giving music lessons during the pandemic to make up at least a portion of the money they would be making were they on tour. Also, some of the musician are taking music lessons (learning a second instrument) to support their colleagues. Andy Cush writes - "we’ll be able to perform again someday. When it comes, we’re going to put on the best shows you’ve ever seen. We’ve been practicing".

Leading Scottish violinist Nicola Benedetti has assembled a team of musicians to offer three weeks of free music classes online, Classical Music reports. Nearly 800 people have signed up so far to teach or play in her virtual sessions (sign up here; registration is free and will be open until Thursday 7 May). Beginning on 11 May, the sessions will culminate in a huge online concert at the end of the month. The sessions are free, donations are welcome.

Professor Robert Gjerdingen from Northwestern University has launched a website collecting thousands of pages of classical music lessons used in the Italian and French conservatories of the 18th and 19th centuries.

Fielding Hope, a senior producer at the London-based venue Cafe Oto, published a list of experimental musicians who are available for lessons and consultations. Having to stay at home - a perfect time to learn new stuff, right?!?
