Zack de la Rocha of RATM / Missy Elliott / Kate Bush / George Michael

Kate Bush, Sheryl Crow, Missy Elliott, George Michael, Willie Nelson, Rage Against the Machine, and the Spinners will be inducted into The Rock & Roll Hall of Fame in the Performer category. Chaka Khan, Al Kooper, and Bernie Taupin will receive the Musical Excellence Award, DJ Kool Herc and Link Wray will be presented with the Musical Influence Award, and Don Cornelius is getting the Ahmet Ertegun Award, Billboard reports. Rolling Stone is angry - the classic rock media insists heavy metal should get its proper number of places in the Hall of Fame.

"Paul McCartney is not an easy man to impress, but a little over four hours into the 2021 Rock and Roll Hall of Fame induction ceremony — which saw surprise appearances from Dave Chappelle, Eminem, and Jennifer Lopez, along with incredible performances by Taylor Swift, LL Cool J, Carole King, Jennifer Hudson, Christina Aguilera and the Go-Go’s — he genuinely seemed a little awestruck when he stepped onto the stage to induct the Foo Fighters" - Rolling Stone starts its piece about last night's Hall of Fame induction ceremony. Read it in full - here.

Jay-Z / Tina Turner / Dave Grohl

Foo Fighters, The Go-Go’s, Jay-Z, Carole King, Todd Rundgren, and Tina Turner have been announced as The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductees for the year 2021 in the Performers category. Additionally, LL Cool J, Billy Preston, and Randy Rhoads will receive the Musical Excellence Award. Kraftwerk, Gil Scott Heron and Charley Patton will get the Early Influence Award. NPR reports. "This is our most diverse class in the history of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame” - says chairman John Sykes.

"But frankly, the whole list made me wonder what the hell the Hall Of Fame has been doing all these years, getting a bowling alley fitted? I mean, Iron Maiden? Chaka Khan? Todd Rundgren? Fela Kuti? All still in the queue? What is this, The Great Escape for pop legends?" - NME columnist Mark Beaumont comments on this year's Rock & Roll Hall of Fame inductees. How it's set-up now - "it’s just making successful rock’n’roll look like a thing of the increasingly distant past".

11 women that need to be inducted into Rock Hall of Fame

Carey / Fitzgerald / Parton

29 individuals were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame last weekend, with 28 of them being men (the only women inducted was Whitney Houston). Courtney E. Smith had, of course, to react to this - "Here’s who I’d like to see from a list of women that should be titled: Are You Fucking Kidding Me, She/They Haven’t Been Inducted or Even Nominated Yet???". It is really a surprise these women aren't in: The Go-Go's, Ella Fitzgerald, Doly Parton, Tina Turner, Carole King, Maria Carey. Not only them, there also needs to be a place for Mary J. Blige, Barbara Streisand, Buffy St. Marie, Björk, Alanis Morrissette, Carly Simon, Cyndi Lauper, Loretta Lynn, Hole, Chaka Khan...

Iggy Pop gave a great speech on Nine Inch Nails' Rock & Roll Hall of Fame induction, describing NIN's music as "a focused and relentless process of emotional destruction which paints a portrait of pain, pressure, and dissatisfaction", CoS reports. He then described how seeing NIN live (1995 in LA's Forum with David Bowie) felt - "Trent held the center of the room just by being a kind of dark spot, hunched behind the mic. I had seen the same thing accomplished in different ways by T. Rex at Wembley, Nirvana at the Pyramid Club, and Bob Dylan in 1965. This is the mark of a master artist – simply to connect”. Trent Reznor said that “as an artist I think the most significant accomplishment or feeling is realizing that something you created from a fragile and intimate place has reached out, resonated, and affected someone else", adding “the journey is far from over"

Today the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame announced the inductees for this year, it's - Depeche Mode, The Doobie Brothers, Whitney Houston, Nine Inch Nails, The Notorious B.I.G. and T. Rex. Billboard argues the inductees "represent one of the most forward-looking and least genre-stringent classes we've seen acknowledged by the Rock Hall". NPR points out to the lack of women in the Hall, generally and this year - over the course of 34 years, there were 69 women inducted out of 888 inductees or less than 8%.

Rock & Roll Hall of Fame bosses have added Motörhead drummer Mikkey Dee and guitarist Phil Campbell to the list of eligible Motörhead stars on the ballot for the class of 2020 nominations following an outcry by fans. The rockers were not included in the band’s original nomination, with Hall of Fame officials only recognising […]

Rock & Roll Hall of Fame will not revoke Michael Jackson's inductions or remove his memorabilia from display at its Cleveland museum. Hall of Fame explains: "As with all of our inductees, Jackson was recognized for musical excellence and talent as well as having a significant impact on rock’n’roll, and was elected by a diverse […]

Stevie Nicks will make history at the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame ceremony on March 29, becoming the first woman to be inducted twice. She was first inducted in 1998 as a member of Fleetwood Mac and is being ushered in this year as a solo artist - Billboard writes about women at the […]

Radiohead, Roxy Music and Janet Jackson will join the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame next year, alongside Def Leppard, The Zombies, Stevie Nicks and The Cure. The seven inductees are the biggest intake since 2004, and bring the total number of acts in the hall to 330. Nicks was already a member as part […]
