2.11 million vinyl records were sold in the week ending on December 23rd in the US, marking vinyl’s biggest week in sales since 1991, Billboard reports. It is also the first time vinyl sales have exceeded two million units in decades. Kid Cudi just broke the record for the biggest vinyl sales week for both a male artist and a rap album with 41,500 in sales of his album 'Man on the Moon III: The Chosen'. However, the best-selling vinyl album in the past week was Adele‘s '30', which moved 59,000 copies.

Adele’s new album '30' spends a second week atop the Billboard 200 albums chart, as the set earned 288,000 equivalent album units in the U.S. in the week ending Dec. 2, Billboard reports. Her new set logs the largest second week for an album in over three years. Elsewhere in the top 10, Michael Bublé’s former No. 1 'Christmas' surges 9-3, while Vince Guaraldi Trio’s soundtrack to the TV special 'A Charlie Brown Christmas' returns to the top 10, bounding 21-10.

Adele’s new album ’30’ blasts in at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 albums chart with 839,000 equivalent album units earned in the U.S. in the week ending Nov. 25, debuting with the largest week of 2021 for any album. Album sales comprise 692,000, making it easily the largest sales week of the year for any album. Further, '30' is the biggest-selling album of the entire year with 692,000 in sales, surpassing the total sales of any album over the past 11 months combined, Billboard reports.

Adele's new album '30' has shot to number one at the UK Official Charts, overtaking Abba to become the fastest-selling album of the year so far. '30' has 261,000 sales, compared to the Swedish pop group's comeback album 'Voyage', which opened with 204,000 sales. However, Adele's previous album '25', released in 2015, opened with 800,000 first-week sales.

Spotify removes shuffle button on Adele’s request

Adele had a simple request when it came to her new album, ’30’: listen to the songs in the order she presented them. The British superstar’s wish was heard by Spotify when the music streaming giant agreed to remove its default shuffle feature which plays songs in random order, NPR reports. It expanded beyond Adele - a quick review by Gizmodo of other artists’ albums (Ed Sheeran, BTS, Blackpink, Taylor Swift) on the platform also found that the shuffle option was gone and that albums were played in order by default. The shuffle option could however be activated in the platform player.

An interesting thought by Adele in Zane Lowe's Apple Music interview about her new album '30' coming out today: If everyone's making music for the TikTok, who’s making the music for my generation? Who’s making the music for my peers? I will do that job, gladly. I'd rather cater to people that are on my level in terms of the amount of time we've spent on Earth and all the things we've been through... The 30- and 40-year-olds that are all committing to themselves and doing therapy, that's my vibe”.

Adele's '30' was turned into manufacturers more than six months ago in order to combat the recent worldwide vinyl shortage — caused by unprecedented, pandemic-related demand, supply-chain disruptions and an increase in manufacturing prices — that has left many artists waiting months after an album's digital release for vinyl records - Variety reports on the curious case. Adele's choke-hold on the music industry meant she was able to book up already-overbooked vinyl plants in order to rush-order pressings so that they would arrive alongside '30''s digital release. Sony also made the decision to "push catalogue titles off its overseas pressing plants to ensure there won't be any shortage of Adele LPs going into the holidays". Over 500,000 copies of '30' were pressed and will now be hitting stores on November 19, while pressings from smaller artists and imprints — who often rely on vinyl sales in order to survive — are now delayed even further (some until 2022) in order to accommodate the blockbuster release.

Adele has gone back to number one in the UK with her new single 'Easy On Me', scoring the biggest chart figures for almost five years - she had a record 24 million streams in the UK in its first week as well as 23,500 downloads. That is equivalent to 217,300 sales - the highest since Ed Sheeran's 'Shape of You' in January 2017, UK Official Charts reports. In the album chart, Coldplay's 'Music of the Spheres' became the fastest-selling record of the year so far, with 101,000 chart sales, Charts reports.

Adele breaks BTS' day-one global plays record

Adele's comeback single, 'Easy On Me', broke the global record for day-one streams on Spotify after its release on Friday, Rolling Stone reports. UK superstar achieved the same feat on Amazon Music. 'Easy On Me' had 19.75 million chart-eligible day-one Spotify streams (10 plays per head per 24 hours are counted), nearly double of BTS' 'Butter', which had 11.04 million plays on its day one on Spotify in May.16

Adele has been named as the UK’s best-selling female album artist of the century by The British Phonographic Industry, according to Music Week. She holds the top spot above the stars such as P!nk, Madonna, Rihanna, Dido, Amy Winehouse, Kylie Minogue, Beyonce, Britney Spears, and Lady Gaga. Her second album, ‘21‘, also holds the title for the UK’s number one album by a female artist since 2000, after shifting just shy of 6 million copies in the UK alone. The new statistics have been unveiled to coincide with the confirmed return of National Album Day on October 21, which will adopt ‘Celebrating Women In Music’ as its 2021 theme.

Adele brought a few jokes, including on herself, on the Saturday Night Like. "I know I look really, really different since you last saw me. But actually, because of all the Covid restrictions...I had to travel light and I could only bring half of me," she joked - "and this is the half I chose". She broke into song in a spoof of the reality show 'The Bachelor', where she entered the competition as a female contestant looking for a date; watch that segment below.
