Another London venue closing - Borderline to close after 30 years

The historic live music venue the Borderline in London's West End is to close this summer, due tu rising rents in the West End, licensing pressures and the redevelopment of the building where it is housed. The Borderline is one of the last remaining live music venues in Soho, after the closure of the Astoria and the Marquee club among others, with more than a third of the most important grassroots venues in the UK capital closing since 2007. The 300-capacity concert space opened in the early 1980s, it initially hosted emerging rock, blues and country music, and it was Borderline where a number of performers - Blur, Amy Winehouse, REM, Rage Against The Machine - had concerts early in their careers.
