Bands holding their new albums for when they can tour again

Death Cab For Cutie live

Indie rock bands with very sizable followings have already turned in new albums to their labels with the understanding that they be held until, at the very least, next fall - Last Donut of the Night blog writes about the prospect of new albums by indie bands like Death Cab For Cutie, Soccer Mommy, Protomartyr... It is similar with A-list stars - we could have expected new albums by Lana Del Rey, Drake, Kendrick Lamar, and Billie Eilish were it not for the pandemic...

Foals keyboardist Edwin Congreave is suffering from eco-anxiety due to carbon footprint of their global tours. "I don't want to fly ever again" the 35-year old told BBC about touring far-flung places like Asia and Australia. "The actual impact that driving gear across Europe has compared to flying, in the big picture, is relatively low" he added, "but, yeah, I think that a lot of musicians and a lot of DJs and bands should just stop touring".

Barenaked Ladies

No longer slave to the hustle and bustle of racing to airports, intermittent sleep, adrenalin-driven late nights, criminally early mornings and forced time away from loved ones for weeks if not months, some musician are finding time a commodity that is rich in discovery - The Star wrote about life in lockdown for some artists (the ones who can afford it, probably). “I’ve been in one place longer than I have since 1989. The pace and the motion of my life has downshifted and … it’s nice!” - Barenaked Ladies co-founder Ed Robertson said.

Madonna has canceled her Sunday night show in Lisbon saying - "I must listen to my body and rest!". She gave her fans just 45 minutes' notice that her show in Portugal's capital was being called off. It is the eighth time Madonna has had to cancel a show on her current world tour. In a video posted to social media last week, she was shown wearing knee supports while rehearsing for an earlier show in Lisbon.

The hip-hop touring business looking for a new model

Nicki Minaj’s NICKIHNDRXX Tour was canceled in North America, Chance the Rapper’s Big Day Tour was canceled everywhere, and T-Pain’s 1UP DLC Tour canceled as well. Of the top 10 global tours of 2019, none of them were hip-hop. In 2018, just one (Beyonce and Jay-Z’s On The Run II). The industry needs to adapt.

Massive Attack have approached scientists from the University of Manchester to create a blueprint to help bands and pop stars to perform live and tour the world without contributing to climate change. The findings will be shared with musicians from across the industry and, it's hoped, will inspire millions of fans to live more sustainably. Researchers will […]

Love You Live is a new Billboard series about some of the "most outrageous, delightful and flat-out inspiring production elements of major tours". The first one - The Chainsmokers' World War Joy tour. How did they deserve the "outrageous" label? They had a 6,000-pound sphere Globe of Death hanging over audiences with three motorcyclists whipping around […]

Roy Orbison and Buddy Holly will tour together, as holograms later this year. The performances will see the reincarnated singer-songwriters backed by a full (live) band and (live) backing vocalists. The Roy Orbison & Buddy Holly: The Rock ’N’ Roll Dream Tour is planned for october in Europe and USA. “These two men were forward-thinkers […]

End of january 2019 Kiss will start their farewell tour End of the Road. “The tour may go three years, but once we play your city, it is done. That is our big thank you" - guitarist Paul Stanley tells Billboard.
