Baker Boy wins five Aria awards

Yolŋu rapper Baker Boy has dominated the 2022 Arias, taking home a total of five awards for his album 'Gela', including the top gong for album of the year, as well as best solo artist and best hip-hop release, ABC reports. Amyl and the Sniffers took home Best group, and Best rock release (for their 2021 album 'Comfort to Me'). Tones and I took home the fan-voted best song award for 'Cloudy Day'.

Tones And I's breakthrough hit 'Dance Monkey' moved past two billion streams on Spotify, which makes the Australian singer the first female artist to reach the milestone, Billboard reports. Just two tracks have accumulated more streams on the platform, Ed Sheeran’s 'Shape of You' (at 2.7 billion) and Post Malone’s 'Rockstar' featuring 21 Savage (2.079 billion).

Tones And I’s 'Dance Monkey' is the most Shazamed song with more than 36 million Shazams since its release in May 2019, according to the music identifying platform, Variety reports. Rounding out the top three is Lilly Wood & The Prick & Robin Schulz’s 'Prayer In C' and Passenger’s 'Let Her Go'. Check out the Top 100 - here.

Tones And I has three nominations for 2020 AIR Awards - her international hit 'Dance Monkey' is up for independent song of the year, her debut EP 'The Kids are Coming' is in the running for independent pop album or EP and she’s nominated for breakthrough independent artist of the year. Australian Music Prize winner Sampa The Great is nominated in three categories as well as Julia Jacklin and Stella Donnelly, Scenestr reports. Scoring multiple chances for this year’s ceremony is Flume, Angie McMahon, Stella Donnelly, The Teskey Brothers, Ainslie Wills and more, while Nick Cave, Cub Sport, Pnau, Confidence Man and Paul Kelly are among the big names with one nomination.
