Dave, Little Simz and Ghetts win MOBO awards

Dave took home best album awards for his second record, 'We're All Alone In This Together' at this year's Mobo Awards, NME reports. Rapper Little Simz won best female, in recognition of her triumphant third album, 'Sometimes I Might Be Introvert'. Ghetts took home best male Mobo. Central Cee was named best newcomer, while Nigeria's Wizkid was named best international act.

Some Grammy firsts and records this year. Mickey Guyton is now the first Black artist ever nominated for Best Country Album, for her record 'Remember Her Name', Tennessean reports. Jay-Z has become the most nominated artist in Grammy history, after getting three 2022 nods, which brought him up to 83 total, The Variety reports. Paul McCartney is second with 81, and Quincy Jones drops to #3 with his 80 nominations. See all the Grammy nominees.

Jon Batiste leads Grammy nominations with 11 nods

Multi-genre performer and Oscar winner Jon Batiste scored the most Grammy nominations with 11 nods, including album of the year nod for 'We Are' along with record of the year with 'Freedom'. His nominations span several genres including R&B, jazz, American roots music, classical and music video. Justin Bieber, Doja Cat and H.E.R. each came away with eight nominations, whereas Billie Eilish and Olivia Rodrigo both had seven nods. The Weeknd nabbed three nominations although the pop star claimed he would not allow his label to submit his music. Check out the nominees in all the categories here.

Camilo took home three awards for three separate songs at last night's Latin Grammys, as well as an award for Best Pop Vocal Album, Grammy.com reports. Juan Luis Guerra also took home four awards, including one for Best Traditional Pop Vocal Album. Rubén Blades came away with some of the most important awards of the night, including Album of the Year for 'Salswing!' and Person of the Year. Song of the Year went to 'Patria y Vida' by Cuban conglomerate Yotuel, Gente De Zona, Descemer Bueno, Maykel Osorbo & El Funky; an unusual choice, given the Latin Recording Academy's hesitance to promote explicitly political content. 18-year old Kid Laroi has scooped the top prize in the Australian 2021 National Indigenous Music awards, Sidney Morning Herald reports. Kid Laroi, who is now based in Los Angeles, took home the artist of the year award, beating nominees Sycco, Birdz, Miiesha, Baker Boy and Jessica Mauboy. JK-47 claims award for debut album, Budjerah crowned best new talent and Miiesha wins song of the year for 'Damaged'.

Amy Shark / Genesis Owusu

Singer/songwriter Amy Shark and hip-hop artist Genesis Owusu both attracted six nominations across as many categories for the 2021 Aria awards. Shark is up for album of the year for 'Cry Forever', whereas her single 'Love Songs Ain’t For Us' (featuring Keith Urban) is nominated in the publicly voted categories of song of the year and best video. She is also nominated for best artist, best pop release and best Australian live act for her Cry Forever Tour 2021. Owusu is nominated for best artist and best album of the year for his debut 'Smiling With No Teeth'. He is also in the running for the best independent release, best hip-hop release and best Australian live act for his Smiling With No Teeth album tour.

Rapper Cadence Weapon wins the 2021 Polaris Music Prize

'Parallel World' by Cadence Weapon was selected by an 11-member jury of the 2021 Polaris Music Prize as the Canadian album of the year, based solely on artistic merit, The FADER reports. Across its 10 songs and 26 minutes, 'Parallel World' makes distinct references to Black experiences and history in Canada and draws inspiration from a wide range of music, literature and art by Black creators to reflect our "dystopian present".

Dave and Fraser T Smith were awarded best contemporary song for 'Children of the Internet' at this year’s Ivor Novello awards, which celebrate Britain’s best songwriters and composers. The song is performed by Future Utopia, and explores the impact of social media and hyper-connectivity, particularly on younger generations. Brit Award winner Celeste was named songwriter of the year alongside her writing partner Jamie Hardman. Lianne La Havas picked up best album for her self-titled second record, written with Matthew Hales. Sky News reported from the event.
