Keith Richards has taken up gardening during pandemic

Rolling Stones guitarist said he has taken up gardening to keep him occupied during the lockdown, leading to a “more normal way of life” after years of living as one of rock’s most notorious hell-raisers - "which is un-normal”. He told Goldmine Magazine, according to Contact Music: “I spent the whole summer actually admiring the garden and also doing a bit of gardening myself – watering the veggies and the stuff... I saw the garden grow – really quite unbelievable".

Keith Richards: Going on tour is almost like a physical need

"I just miss it [going on tour and playing live] because it's almost like a physical need. Your body kind of expects it, once you go out there on the road and make contact with everybody. And for this year, having it cut off is kind of weird, which is probably why I'm talking too much" - Keith Richards says in a GQ interview about life in lockdown. He says he spends time in quarantine "writing some songs because I do that anyway. That sort of happens without even trying. Not that they're any good, but, you know, it's what you do". Plans for band's 60th anniversary - "to still actually all be alive".

Keith Richards said he hasn’t touched a cigarette since last October and attributed the decision to his desire to remain active in music for as long as possible - “I think both Mick and I felt that on the last tour we were just getting going. [We]’ve got to continue this”. The Rolling Stone said it's harder than heroin - “Quitting heroin is like hell, but it’s a short hell. Cigarettes are just always there, and you’ve always done it". Now, Richards says his vices are limited to “a little wine with meals, and a Guinness or a beer or two”.

“It’s been about a year now,” Richards told Rolling Stone of his decision to cut back on drinking. “I pulled the plug on it.
