EDM producer i_o has passed away at the age of 30, after a short experimental pop solo career, and a pop highlight this year, EDM.com reports. Throughout his career, i_o explored new methods of music production and dissemination with an artistic philosophy rooted in the idea that "everything can be hacked". This year he released three EPs for mau5trap, the independent record label founded by deadmau5, and collaborated with Grimes on 'Violence' from her record 'Miss Anthropocene'.

Grimes is preparing a new online exhibition 'Selling Out', where she’ll be selling drawings, prints, photographs, and conceptual pieces, Bloomberg reports. The most notable piece in the collection is a conceptual piece, also called 'Selling Out', which finds Grimes selling part of her soul for the “best offer”. The idea behind it: "'Selling Out' is executed as a contract in which Grimes sells a fraction of her soul, formalizing the idea that every time an artist sells a piece of their art, part of the soul is sold with it".

'Miss_Anthrop0cene' is Grimes' darkest and most ambitious work, with each of its "10 tracks an embodiment of mortality and how humankind is inching ever closer to extinction", Consequence of Sound says in a review (grade B+). Speaking of the concept of the album, its title is a play on words - a combination of “misanthrope” and “Anthropocene” - with songs speaking of mortality and how humankind is inching ever closer to extinction. Sonically, there's a lot there - Bollywood-inspired melodies, drum and bass, folk, Britpop, dance, nu-metal, indie rock...

Grimes made a playlist with her, Bjork, Massive Attack, Cocteau Twins and others on in, lobbying to make "ethereal" a genre.
