Fun: AI generator turns any subject into a Drake song

Drayk.it is a funny little AI tool that allows users to create Drake songs inspired by customized or random subjects. The music generator created by Mayk.it allows users to select a topic of their choice, which its GPT-3 will create a song about in the style of the rap star’s own hits. Each generated song will be performed in the voice of Drake and will span one-minute in length.

Drake out-streams all pre-1980 music in the US

Drake has generated more U.S. on-demand streams in 2021 than the total number of pre-1980 records combine, according to Billboard. The Luminate numbers show that tracks from the ’50s to 1979 made up only 0.6% of streams last year, whereas Drake, whose first album came out 15 years ago, was responsible for 0.8% of all streams in 2021. Across the 988.154 billion U.S. streams from 2021, the catalog business made up 69.8% of the album consumption units in 2021, a 4.1% increase from 2020. Of that number, 90% of these units were from records relea

Drake has the biggest week for an album in over a year

Drake’s new album 'Certified Lover Boy' starts with 613,000 equivalent album units earned in the U.S. in the week ending Sept. 9, the biggest week for an album since August last year when Taylor Swift’s 'Folklore' launched at No. 1 with 846,000 units, Billboard reports.

New figures out of the US this week suggest that biggest hits are increasingly becoming smaller, Music Business Worldwide suggests, based on the latest streaming figures. The industry’s biggest streaming hit at the mid-year point of 2021 is significantly smaller than its biggest streaming hit at the mid-year point of 2020, of 2019, and of 2018. The biggest hit of H1 2021 in the US was Olivia Rodrigo’s 'drivers license', which attracted 460 million on-demand audio streams during the six months. In 2020 the biggest hit was Roddy Ricch’s 'The Box' with 728 million streams in the first half of the year, the prior year it was Lil Nas X’s 'Old Town Road' with 596 million streams, whereas in 2018 Drake’s 'God’s Plan' pulled in 655 million audio streams. This is all especially odd, of course, when you consider the massive growth in streaming’s popularity between 2017 and 2021. MBW offers a few explanations - it's a Covid-inspired anomaly, or maybe people are listening more to catalog music (older than year and a half).

The Mount Rushmore of 2010s hip-hop

Hip-hop playlist RapCaviar made The Mount Rushmore of 2010s hip-hop, picking the first three and leaving it to its Twitter followers to pick out the fourth. RC first chose Drake, Kendrick Lamar and J. Cole, with the Twittersphere picking out Nicki Minaj. Kanye West was close 2nd, followed by Future and Lil Wayne.

The Weeknd took home 10 awards at the 2021 Billboard Music Award, including top artist and top male artist, Billboard reports. Pop Smoke won five, including top new artist and BTS and Bad Bunny each earned four. P!nk was honored as the Icon, Drake as the artist of the decade and Trae Tha Truth as the Change Maker.

The Toronto singer/rapper has become the first artist ever to surpass 50 billion combined streams on Spotify, with his 2018 song ‘God’s Plan’ racking up 1.67 billion streams alone, NME reports. Drake has clocked up 35.72 billion streams of his own songs and 14.30 billion streams of “featured streams” (such as tracks he has guested on).

Drake scores most US chart hits in history

Drake scored his 208th Billboard Hot 100 entry this week, making him the artist with the most US chart hits in history, Billboard reports. The rapper broke the record, previously set by the cast of the TV show Glee, with the track 'Oprah’s Bank Account' by Lil Yachty and DaBaby, which he guests on. It reached No 85 off the back of 10.5m streams. His first US chart entry was 'Best I Ever Had', which debuted at No 92 in May 2009. His 207 chart placements since have been bulked out by frequent guest spots on tracks by artists including Rihanna, Nicki Minaj and Travis Scott, as well as his solo hits.

Ed Sheeran’s ‘Shape Of You’ is the most played song on Spotify with 2.3 billion streams, earning the singer just over £7 million. Drake's ‘One Dance’ is the second most streamed song with over 1.7 billion plays and £6 million in profits, and Post Malone’s ‘Rockstar’ came third with 1.7 billion streams and £5.8 million in royalties. Four of Sheeran's tracks make the top 100 most streamed on Spotify - collectively 'Shape of You', 'Thinking Out Loud', 'Perfect' and 'Photograph' have had 6.1 billion plays, and earned an estimated £21 million. On average, Spotify pays artists an estimated £0.0034p for every stream on the platform.

Last year's phenomenon Billie Eilish had the biggest-selling album of last year in the USA with 'When We All Fall Asleep, Where Do We Go?' selling in 2.5 million total album-equivalent units in 2019, 400,000 more units than any other album.
