“Proud to report that a New Zealand mother has named her children Metallica, Pantera and Slayer. She told me, ‘It’s not easy raising three of the heaviest bands'” - New Zealand documentary filmmaker and actor David Farrier shared via a newsletter article. The daughter named Metallica had a middle name of 'And Justice for All' (no mention of baby named Pantera's meddle name being Cowboy From Hell). In New Zealand, there are no restrictions on naming babies after bands or albums.

Kelly Osbourne, Nancy Sinatra, Lola Lennox - the burden of children

Osbourne / Sinatra / Lennox

“I still go into a restaurant and people say, ‘I love your dad's work’” - Grammy-winning Jakob Dylan complained about being "a son of Bob Dylan" in other people's eyes, and not an established artist. Some don't even try to move further on from their parent's legacy, like the Bob Marley sons continuing the reggae tradition while keeping the family name. Some try and distinguish - Redfoo and SkyBlu, the electronic duo of LMFAO and the son and grandson of Motown Records founder, Berry Gordy changed music and their names. Sting’s daughter Eliot Sumner, adopted a pseudonym, Vaal, with which to launch her DJ career. Nas stepped into a completely different realm from his father, Olu Dara's jazz. Independent talks to them about being children of famous musicians.

Cardi B took to social media to fire back at trolls criticizing her for not letting her two-year-old daughter Kulture listen to 'WAP', which all started when certain Twitter users responded to a viral video of the rapper turning her No. 1 hit off when the toddler entered the room. "So ya daughter cant listen to it but everybody else’s daughter can?" one wrote. Cardi B answered - "I don’t make music for kids I make music for adults. Parents are responsible on what their children listen too or see…I’m a very sexual person but not around my child just like every other parent should be", ET Canada reports.

A nice article in Spin about children who played big parts in some of the most popular videos, like the girl with braces in 'Black Hole Sun' by Soundgarden, the boy who kisses Madonna in 'Open Your Heart', or the boy playing Michael Anthony Jr. in Van Halen’s 'Hot for Teacher' (while drunk!). One of the lucky ones was Kelsey Lewis, known for her role in the video for Pink’s 'Family Portrait', who continued acting in following years, has also started DJing, and escaped mass-shootings on two occasions.

Tom Rosenthal

British pop singer-songwriter Tom Rosenthal, and certainly a very proud father, shared a new tune he made with his toddler daughter named Fenn, "nearly 4 year old". Her hit single, 'Dinosaurs in Love', tells the heartbreaking tale of romance coming to a tragic end: "Dinosaurs eating people/ Dinosaurs in love/ Dinosaurs having a party/ They eat fruit and cucumber", and then comes the climax - "A big bang came/ And they died/ Dinosaurs, dinosaurs fell in love/ But they didn't say goodbye".

“Incredible!!!” - Queens Of The Stone Age wrote reposting a video of remarkable drum cover of their track ‘No One Knows’ by nine-year-old girl Nandi Bushell. Last year she went viral for a cover of Nirvana’s ‘In Bloom’, and for playing with Lenny Kravitz. She has also covered The Prodigy, Billie Eilish, Rage Against The Machine, Prince, The Police and System of a Down.

Five-year-old Slipknot fan and viral air-drummer Caleb H got decked out in period-appropriate Slipknot gear to blast his way through the band's classic 'Before I Forget' on an electronic drum set. Previously, his father uploaded a video with the young drummer playing a cover of 'Toxicity' by the System of a Down (lower below).

Famous guitarist first saw Nandi Bushell's videos, and then invited her to come jam with him in London O2 Arena where he was about to play. They're quite sweet playing together, and he seems much more excited than her. Bushell has a YouTube channel with her drum covers of rock, metal and pop songs.

A poll conducted on more than 1,000 British children aged seven to 17 about their music habits found that 97% of them had listened to music in the previous week – but 67% had also engaged in “some form of music-making activity”. It’s a huge rise from 39% in 2006. Music-making is present especially among […]
