Andre 3000: You have to build those muscles

"I maybe had smoked a joint and then went in the booth and I was kinda out of it, and I just started rapping with my normal voice, like my speaking voice, and Ric said 'That's it!' And that was it" - Andre 3000 tells Rick Rubin in a Broken Records podcast about how he struggled to find a vocal approach. Rubin talked to Andre 3000 about the early days of OutKast, why it’s so hard for him to write new material (lack of focus and lack of confidence), and why he would rather perform at flea markets these days than sold-out arenas. A message to young musicians is to play live and build playing muscles - literally and metaphorically. A great interview - 58 minutes of it.
