R. Kelly accused of bribing an official to marry 15-year-old Aaliyah

New York federal prosecutors have accused R. Kelly with bribing a public officer for “the creation of a fraudulent identification document for Jane Doe #1”, NPR reports. Prosecutors allege in an indictment filed in Brooklyn federal court that the bribery occurred on Aug. 30, 1994, the day before Kelly married Aaliyah - who was 15 years old at the time, and he was 27. The new charge is an addition to a sweeping set of federal indictments filed against Kelly in July by prosecutors in New York and Illinois. Prosecutors have accused the singer of abusing women and girls for more than two decades, including kidnapping, forced labor and sending child pornography across state lines.
