Music against the president: São Paulo's underground scene
Share
Guardian discovered São Paulo's underground music scene, bands playing in the shadow of reactionary politics by the new president Jair Bolsonaro. Electro-punx Deafkids say they are "not interested in cultivating nihilism… We are more interested in trying to think of other ways to say yes, of other things and other practices to embrace and other ideas to spread”; post-punk group Rakta have a unique position - “Being a woman and occupying a space in the Brazilian music scene is a social and political act in and of itself”. Electronic band Teto Preto merge playfulness with activism, they're joyously anarchic and riotously flamboyant (below).
