Guardian's Global album of the month: 'Parted Plains' by Ami Dang - "self-assured and challenging"

The London paper decided not to use the term "world music" anymore, since they deemed in derogative, instead all the music that isn't western popular music is "global" now. So, their latest Global album of the month is 'Parted Plains' by the American sitar player Ami Dang, and it's the chosen one for August because Dang "pushes her own version of ambience, making the case for instrumental work that lets unease creep into its stillness". Guardian emphasises 'Parted Plains' isn't the kind of music that just fills out space - it is "a self-assured and challenging collection". Listen to it at BandCamp.
