AfroFuture Fest charged double ticket price for white people

Detroit music festival AfroFuture Fest came under scrutiny for charging ticket prices lower for people of color vs. the rest. Early bird tickets for POC retailed at $10 while non-POC were charged $20. AfroFuture Fest organizers argued that the prices are actually the same, given the fact that the white people earn more, meaning 20 dollars for a white person is like 10 dollars for an Afroamerican. Finally, the organizers reversed the decision to charge white people more for tickets than black and brown people because they received threats, an artist dropped out and a ticketing website threatened to unpublish their event. The formula they came up with - a $20 general admission fee and a "suggested donation for nonPOC", CNN reports.
