Stormzy wearing Banksy's stab-proof vest at Glastonbury: Banner of a divided and frightened nation
On his headlining set at Pyramid Stage at Glastonbury Stormzy appeared with a customized stab-proof vest made by the elusive graffiti artist Banksy, a work of art set perfectly in the moment, and the one that makes sense only then and there. "It added a punch of visual tension to his verbal mash-up of modern Britain from knife crime to Boris Johnson... Its combination of the British flag with an artefact of paranoia is a perfect image of our moment" - Guardian writes. It was only after the show that Banksy wrote on his Instagram - “I made a customised stab-proof vest and thought – who could possibly wear this?”, adding on a separate line: “Stormzy at Glastonbury”. Stormzy replied "honoured, grateful, thank you", apparently in for the stunt.
