Dr. John dies - "the most incredible mutt ever"
Share
American singer Dr John has died at the age of 77 - the New Orleans musician was famous for blending black and white musical styles (blues, pop, jazz, boogie woogie, rock and roll), with a hoodoo-infused stage persona and gravelly bayou drawl. Alexis Petridis says Dr. John will be remembered "as visionary artist who took local traditions and transformed them into music that sounded like nothing else on Earth". Dan Auerbach of the Black Keys said - "We lost one of the greatest musicians who ever lived and also one of the greatest reflections of this country, musically, in one man". Rolling Stone picks out Dr. John's 12 essential tracks.
