However bizarre it may seem now, in 1994, the British government attempted to outlaw dance music and rave culture, defining troublesome music as that which “includes sounds wholly or predominantly characterised by the emission of a succession of repetitive beats”, Guardian reports. New indie movie, 'Beats', produced by Steven Soderbergh, is a Scottish coming-of-age story describing those 1990s British Middle ages.
