Nipsey Hussle casket takes 25-mile "Victory Lap" through South Los Angeles
Major streets in South Los Angeles were closed thursday following the final services for rapper Nipsey Hussle. The rap star was remembered in a touching ceremony at The Staples Center, where 21,000 of his fans gathered, including Snoop Dogg, YG and DJ Mustard and even Barack Obama (via a letter) paid tribute to Nipsey. A silver hearse with Nipsey's body then went through West Adams Boulevard and Vermont Avenue, south down Vermont and on to Century Boulevard to pass through Inglewood, and next to his Marathon clothing store as tens of thousands of people lined the streets. The procession came to an end at the Angelus Funeral Home, where friends and families gathered for a private ceremony, All Hip Hop reports. Obama said in his touching letter that Hussle's choice to invest in his community "rather than ignore it... to set an example for young people to follow — is a legacy worthy of celebration”, Rolling Stone reports. Stevie Wonder used his tribute appearance at Nipsey Hussle's Los Angeles memorial to call for stricter gun laws as he mourned the tragic rapper's "unnecessary" death, Music News reports. His comment were literally on spot - one person was killed and three others injured when a shooting took place Thursday afternoon during the funeral procession for Hussle, Hollywood Reporter reports.
